Yarmuth Praises Obama's Decision to Appoint GE's Jeffrey Immelt as Head of the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness
January 21, 2011

(Washington, DC) Today, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s decision to name GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt as head of the Administration’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness:

“As we have worked to rebuild our economy, GE has proven itself to be a worldwide leader in innovation, embracing public-private partnerships to help create jobs at home – including more than 1,100 at Appliance Park in my hometown of Louisville,” said Congressman Yarmuth. “I am thrilled that the leader of such a forward-thinking company – a company that is leading efforts to revitalize manufacturing in the U.S. - will now be working closely with the President on job creation and global competitiveness.  I’ve long expressed my concern that the President’s economic team lacked voices with real-world business experience, so I am very encouraged that Mr. Immelt is being tapped for this key position. I believe his insight will generate new ideas for job creation and economic growth, with the goal of creating an economy that works for all Americans.”
