WHERE'S MY CHECK?

The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the IRS have launched online tools to try and answer that question.

IF YOU FILED YOUR 2018 OR 2019 TAXES:

The “Get My Payment” web page allows taxpayers who last filed their tax return in 2019 or 2020 to track the status of their payment, and to provide direct deposit banking information if the IRS does not have it. If you receive an error message or have questions, check the IRS Economic Impact Payment Information Center for Frequently Asked Questions. Please note that due to a high volume of visitors, the website may be slow to load.

IF YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO FILE TAXES:

People who receive Social Security retirement, disability (SSDI), survivor benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Railroad Retirement benefits or VA benefits may not generally be required to file a tax return. The IRS and the Treasury Department are working with those benefit agencies to arrange for payment through the same method that you receive your regular payments. You may be able to speed up the process by using the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here page on the IRS.gov website.

NOTE: The IRS has partnered with the tax software firm Intuit to gather this information. The form is completed on the Intuit ‘freefilefillableforms.com’ page. You should always be alert to the website name at the top of your screen, as scammers sometimes try to redirect you and steal your information. In this case, though, the redirect is to a secure page in partnership with the IRS. 

SCAMS:

Anyone contacting you saying they can help you get this payment, or asking you for information in order to get this payment, is trying to steal your money or identity. No one from any government agency will contact you by phone, email, or text message about this. The only method the agency uses to contact you is the US Postal Service, and even then they will not ask you to provide confidential information. Please contact our office if you feel you may be subject to a scam at (323) 965-1422.

IF IRS DOES NOT HAVE YOUR BANK INFORMATION:

You should expect to receive a paper check in the mail, though generating those payments will take several weeks. The Get My Payment page should be able to tell you whether a check is being mailed to you.
