Rep. Yarmuth to Host Service Academy Event for Local Students

LOUISVILLE – This Thursday, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) will host Louisville-area middle and high school students for U.S. Service Academy Information Night, an event designed to help students interested in the military academies understand the nomination and appointment process. The event will be held at Butler Traditional High School in Louisville.

Representatives from the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and U.S. Marine Corps will be in attendance, as well as staff from Yarmuth’s office to assist students with navigating the application process.

Mitchell Givens, a Ballard High School senior who received nominations and appointments to the Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, and West Point, will discuss his experience as a past participant in the application and nomination process. Givens will attend the Naval Academy in the fall. Students will also hear from Beau Baker, USNA ’97 and a teacher at Fern Creek High School, who will speak about what the nominating board looks for in selecting applicants.

Interested students can RSVP for the event by calling 502-582-5129 or emailing YarmuthRSVP@mail.house.gov. More information on service academy nominations can be found at yarmuth.house.gov.
