Statement on Fourth Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act

LOUISVILLE – Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) issued the following statement in recognition of the fourth anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, which became law on March 23, 2010:

“During the past four years, I’ve met Louisvillians whose lives were saved because of the law, families who no longer have to worry about going bankrupt because of medical bills, and small-business owners who are now able to offer coverage to their employees for the first time. The law has guaranteed that no American can be denied coverage or charged a higher premium for getting sick, and no woman can be charged more than a man for the same policy. In our Commonwealth, Kynect has been a model for the nation, enrolling more than 321,000 Kentuckians in affordable, quality coverage in the first six months alone.

“As we enter its fifth year, I hope we will work to implement and improve the law so that every American has guaranteed access to affordable care, businesses grow and thrive, and we continue to rein in the costs of health care. Hundreds of thousands of Kentuckians – and millions of Americans from every corner of the country – depend on it.”
