Statement on Labor Day

LOUISVILLE – Today, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) issued the following statement to mark Labor Day:

“Labor Day is a chance to celebrate the hardworking men and women who are the foundation of our community, the drivers of our economy, and the reasons for our prosperity. Louisville workers have kept us at the forefront of the revitalization of American manufacturing, helped bring good-paying jobs back to our community from overseas, and driven innovation across industries. Our workforce is the key to our future success.

“Without a strong, vibrant organized labor movement, the middle class would have no voice in public policy debates that are increasingly dominated by anti-worker interests. The incredible wage and wealth gaps in our nation right now, which have grown to levels not seen since the 1920s, will not change unless workers have dynamic and vigorous advocates. Policy priorities such as raising the minimum wage, expanding investments in our infrastructure, and protecting workers’ rights in the workplace depend on the advocacy of labor unions and their allies.

“I’m proud to support these priorities in Congress, and I am honored to stand with workers as we fight for policies to empower Louisville families, grow our economy, and keep America at the top of the world economy.”
