Yarmuth Returns to Washington for Hearing on Ebola Response

WASHINGTON – Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) returned to Washington Thursday morning to take part in a hearing to examine the national public health response to Ebola in the United States. The hearing is scheduled to begin at noon.

The House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will conduct the hearing, which will focus on public health agencies’ work to prevent the spread of Ebola in the U.S. In addition, members will seek to gauge the preparedness of health care facilities, ports, points of entry, and other institutions in identifying cases of Ebola and responding with appropriate caution, procedure, and care.

Witnesses who will testify before the committee:

-Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

-Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health

-Dr. Luciana Borio, Assistant Commissioner, Counterterrorism Policy, U.S. Food and Drug Administration

-Dr. Robin Robinson, Director, Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

-John P. Wagner, Acting Assistant Commissioner, Office of Field Operations, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Department of Homeland Security

-Dr. Daniel Varga, Chief Clinical Officer and Senior Vice President, Texas Health Resources
