Yarmuth: Statement on Ford Hiring in Louisville

Congressman Yarmuth visits with Ford employees

(Washington, DC) Today, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) issued the following statement regarding the news that Ford Motor Company would begin hiring 1,800 workers at the Louisville Assembly Plant:

“I am thrilled that federal investments I supported to help re-tool Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant are paying off with the creation of hundreds and hundreds of new local jobs.  Today’s hiring announcement is further proof that Ford will be a strong partner in our community for years to come, helping spur economic development and continue the revitalization of manufacturing in Louisville.”

In 2009, a $5.9 billion loan to Ford was announced as part of the federal government’s Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing Loan Program to help Ford Motor Company retool facilities in Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio.   This program provided funding to help auto companies produce cars in the U.S. that increase fuel economy standards.

The Loan Program was created by the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, which Congressman Yarmuth supported during his first year in Congress.
