Yarmuth Statement on Senate Agreement to Temporarily Fund Government Operations Through February 8

WASHINGTON – Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-03) released the statement below regarding his opposition to an agreement made in the Senate to temporarily fund government operations through February 8, conditional on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s promise to take up legislation to address the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

“We should be doing far more for the American people than this short-term, short-on-leadership spending gap bill. But the responsibility now lies with Leader McConnell and Speaker Ryan to not just help DREAMers by ending the DACA crisis that President Trump created, but also show whether or not they’re capable of fulfilling their primary responsibility as the majority party in power: passing a budget that adequately funds our government for the remainder of the fiscal year. On four separate occasions so far, Congressional Republicans have shown they are incapable of completing this task of governing. They now have 17 days to learn how to do their job and keep the promise they’ve made to the American people.”
